This graphic shows vehicles per capita by country, based on data from the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers ([OICA](https://www.oica.net/category/vehicles-in-use/)).
In Europe, **Poland** has the highest number of vehicles per person, but one of the lowest share of electric vehicles (EVs). While EVs make up nearly 16% of all cars in top-ranking country Norway, they comprise 0.1% in Poland. On average, EVs account for 0.8% of passenger cars in the European Union.
**Norway** is another leader in the EV market, whose government began introducing EV policies as early as 1990. By 2025, the country aims to phase out internal combustion engine vehicle sales completely. About 80% of all vehicles sales in Norway were EVs in 2022, the highest in the world.
wow, a traffic jam and capita-dust graph
The number of cars in Poland tripled…. Hmmmm….
That is surprising. I was sure France has too extensive public transport to be #3.
I guess about every second Polish guy is a car dealer in some way.
All that talk about EU super public transport and cars per capita same basically as in US. 🙂 Data don’t lie.
Polish statistics are skewed, as cars rarely get removed from the registry.
Where is iceland?
Living in car lite country, it is amazing you need so much cars.
Weird, in Romanian cities it’s like a real life Wall-E, the streets are full of cars, sometimes there’s not even enough space on the sidewalk due to parked cars.
I think italians love cars in general, regardless of public transport efficiency (sucks in Rome and southern mountainous rural areas/ it’s great in the Po Valley). Small cars, even second-hand, are pretty common in Italy.
Sorry, but what about Luxembourg? That stat is surely interesting.
My whole family actively avoids driving cars, one of our main goals when finding a house to buy was to avoid the need for buying a car. So yeah, anecdotal evidence works out 😀
Cute graph but my country is wrong again, listed sub 600 and official stat for 2023 is 780.
Where do people keep getting these skewered numbers from?
I gotta say there’e a huge amount of Ukrainians who bought cars in Europe and brought ‘em to Ukraine with no custom clearance. Not sure if it really affects the statistics tho but yeah
If this includes the full population (including people under the legal driving age and seniors that don’t drive anymore), this probably shows that many vehicles are still registered, just not running, because having nearly 1 car per person is crazy
Rare Bulgarian W
Fuck cars.
So you removed Malta and Cyprus because they would inconveniently be at the top of this graph?

BULGARIA IN FIRST PLACE FOR SOMETHING 🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🦁🦁🦁🇧🇬🦁🦁🦁 RAHHHHHH!!!🦁🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬
As and italian this is One of the reason why public transportation sucks in a lot of zones here. Too Much car culture, even if they have to do 5 meters ppl take the car. i had an ex GF like that, She had a mall at 500 Meters from home, and still She took the car for every single shit and then complained when She couldn’t find parking.
However, young people are too poor to afford a car now, and many of them are considering other options like working from home ecc. With the polluted air we have in the nord, i Hope this changes fast
Love the way that Denmark and The Netherlands still have a decent car ownership but they love riding bikes, you don’t have to be a car addicted to own a car
