Fluffy the alligator snapping turtle found in Cumbrian tarn

So this is Fluffy um we’re an alligator snapping turtle these guys are typically found in America usually um the Southern United States they’re found in sort of swamplands in Florida we were really lucky because um the lady who found it is Denise Chamberlin one of the the

Parish counselors in the local area and she lived in Florida for a period so somebody had called her um and lots of people were saying that it was a Terrain and she thought she’ll go out and have a look anyway just in case uh when she went out luckily she’d lived in Florida

She recognized it straight away as an alligator snapping turtle what they tend to do is they will sit like this so they have a very wide mouth they hold it wide open and they’re sat in the shallows there’s a little red part just inside the mouth which is part of their tongue

And that actually represents or replicates a worm and then fish will see it um be tempted over by it and then it will uh snap out with it

An alligator snapping turtle, with a jaw experts say can break through bone, was spotted living by a lake in Cumbria.

The animal is native to swamplands of the southern United States such as Florida, has a hard and rugged shell as well as a sharp and wide jaw.

Vets said despite not being used to the cooler climate in the UK, the turtle, who has been named Fluffy, was relatively healthy, although a bit lethargic when first brought in. The turtle will soon be moving to specialist wildlife centre in Cornwall.

  1. This reminds me when NYC found that alligator in central park. People really need to stop keeping wild animals as pets

  2. Animals and bugs that look like rocks or limbs or dirt or leaves are so creepy. That said…that thing should be a comic book character.
