Queen Mother’s 101-Year-Old Letter Found in This Extraordinary Way

And work and for the wonderful

A 101-year-old letter written by the Queen Mother is going to auction after it was discovered in a second-hand book.

The thank you note, dated January 27th 1923, responds to a letter of congratulations on the then-Lady Elizabeth’s upcoming wedding.

Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon famously rejected the future King George VI twice due to fears about the impact of royal life.

Buckingham Palace went on to announce the couple’s engagement on January 15th, 1923, after his third marriage proposal was accepted.
