“Underestimated”. More like they didnt want to see what was in front of their face. Crimea happened 10 years ago. Plenty of time to unwind yourself from that, even if you were blind to the other atrocious actions in the 10 years prior. Ossetia, Georgia, Chechnya etc. etc. And soon potentially transnistria.
Money, power, and cheap whatevers, were too enticing for them. Really hard for them to take responsibility over there for some reason.
The germans at least figured it out and acted accordingly. My country still buys 98% gas from Russia and an ex exterior minister writes how good live is in Russia.

Deploy NATO troops to create a perimeter in the non occupied territories of Ukraine 🇺🇦 behind the enemy lines now that Russia is weak and can’t advance… don’t hesitate for much longer or it will be too late to avoid what will be unavoidable. This will be a firm action and deterrent decision otherwise a greater war is coming. If he decides anyway to attack such perimeter in the future because now he doesn’t not have such capacity (this is why we should act now) it means he wants war with NATO and we will give him the war he wants, italy 🇮🇹

No shit… i was telling people for years. They just didn’t want their bubble to be penetrated and they still don’t. They think there is a way back to status quo.
Everyone in the west made mistakes with Putin, but we all made them with the best intentions…Well everyone except Blair…We wanted peace, trust, and fair trade, and we worked hard at that.
Russia betrayed us all and showed they the same treacherous imperialist b-stards they have always been.
We tried. We were fair. We should remain proud of that, and not feel one bit guilty about what we do in retaliation.

The EU still refuses to take responsibility and pay the full cost all US aid to Ukraine for the war they created with $trillions in Russian energy that funded Putin’s Russia. Why does the US tax payer have to foot the bill for European arrogance and willful ignorance. 20 years the US has been demanding they stop buying Russian energy. Instead they leveraged cheap Russian energy against a massive US trade deficit that left millions of Americans unemployed and impoverished while laughing at American poor public services and massive debt. Then the EU spends their defense funds on months long government paid vacations and free health care for all Europeans. Russia is not attacking NATO now or ever.
