Any handy people over here?

While renovating the attic, I found something puzzling behind some built-in closets (and a cringe-worthy bag filled with dirty socks and underwear, yuck!).

The previous homeowner was a (bad) DIY enthusiast, and we’ve been undoing his handiwork for quite some time now. I suspect this was his doing as well. It’s connected to a chimney, but not a fire chimney; rather, it’s for the pipes of the condensing boiler, which extend through the roof.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Also, next question. Can I remove it?

Many thanks,

  1. Just a guess but this could be how the condensation of the condensing boiler is let off? A condensing boiler will produce quite a bit of water which needs to go somewhere.

If you want to get rid of this, be wary of using a condensation pump. They are notorious for failing very often. Finding another way to let the water off gravitationally would be your best bet, if possible.

  2. Maybe preparation for a satellite dish, with a coax cable inside?

  3. I would try to follow the pipe on the level below to understand where it starts before removing it

  4. Ventilation of the waste pipe is a possibility. It is useful to prevent that flushing the toilet empties the water in syphons of a sink etc.
    Should have been bigger probably

  5. Tube for a cable? It can be for the external temperature sensor for the condensation boiler?
The sensor looks like little box 6x6x2cm.
