A bit scary when I recall how fucking dumb we were at 16. On the other hand, it wasn’t much better at 18.
I already know people will bitch about this..
Austria did the same 2007 and it didn’t lead to any problems, the only thing it caused was more interest by young people in politics.
Considering the sliding scale of increased legal rights and responsibilities that Germany offers to its 14 to 17 year olds, it’s not actually that weird in context.
I have some reservations to be honest, but nothing solid.

Most likely not going to happen. This requires a two thirds majority in the Bundestag, since the constitution would need to be changed, and the CDU/CSU will just block everything, since barely any 16 year olds want to vote for them.
That’s stupid. Voting age should be increased, if anything.
What could possibly go wrong…. lol
16 year olds are dumb as fuck but so are a lot of 60 year olds.
I have to agree with lowering the age based on the fact that they’re old enough to work full time and, as such, pay taxes. No taxation without representation and all that.
What we also need is a maximum age for heads of state/government. Bring vitality back to the office.
Please, no, these people aren’t even able to be tried as adults
I think 18 is a good age limit, but lowering it to 16 isn’t necessarily a bad idea.
Young people famously have a very low turnout compared to older people, so the sort of 16-year-old that bothers to vote will also probably be more informed about the issues that many older voters, some of whom vote more out of habit and party loyalty than any informed understanding of pressing issues.
I also like that it somewhat helps balance politics being usually dominated by older people, although this is of course largely the fault of young people themselves for not being as active voters.

I would rather made voting compulsory for adults.
Curious 16 is mature ?
