Answer to the question in the title: NO IT IS NOT ENOUGH. But it is good.
I’ve long suspected — contrary to much popular belief, and contrary to my own biases (as a socialist) — that capitalism COULD solve the climate problem, on one condition: that it had enough time. It probably does not have enough time. Moving in the right direction, but probably too late. IDK. We’ll see.
from the article:
“Renewable energy in the U.S. reached an all-time high last year…. Meanwhile, greenhouse gas emissions fell to a historic low”
I think the effects of climate change will be with us for thousands of years regardless of our actions.
It seems like we have already reached the tipping point with the 1.5 Celsius degree rising global temperatures.
This makes it likely that ice caps will melt eventually however this will take hundreds of years.
I believe that instead of stopping or mitigating the effects of climate change humans will have to adapt to it.
The good news is that we are good at adapting. The bad news is human population will likely peak between 9 and 10 billion people, further stressing the resources of our planet.
No, because no matter what the general population does it doesn’t help against the biggest offender. Shipping, Mass Hauling, and flight pollute way more than the average person does in their life span. Everybody general civilian can go green and only add maybe 20 or 30 minutes at max to the climate clock. Unless we can get big companies to go green going green ourselves wont help anything besides giving us a guilt free feeling.
