IT blunder allowed physician associates to illegally prescribe opiates – and trust didn’t report PAs

  1. Ah jeez. How bad of an IT blunder must that’ve been? 

  2. Whether or not the system “allowed it”, why were people who know they cannot prescribe attempting to prescribe?

  3. This should be prosecuted and they should be barred from practice. Without legal prescribing powers this is basically dealing class A drugs in a hospital setting.

  4. Sounds about right for NHS IT. Despite the fact that the NHS is dead without IT, we award contracts to the cheapest option that inevitably does not line up with the rest of the software we need to use. It is pathetic but it is all done in the interest of saving money and hoping the problems that will inevitably arise are not too big.

  5. My pharmacist wife thinks they are prescribing to themselves or mates.
