Taking over neighbour’s cat could be illegal

Feeding your neighbor’s cat could soon land you in prison have you ever fed your neighbor’s cat hoping it might move in with you well you could soon be breaking the law and you could be fined or even face prison time that’s because of a new pet abduction bill which has

Gathered government support and could soon become law up until now pets have been classed as property but campaigners wanton see harsher sentences that acknowledge the welfare and the emotional value of our pets in 2021 560 cats were reported stolen that’s five times more than 10 years ago there’s a

Specific line in this new bill which says it will be illegal to induce the cat to leave its owner so if you are feeding the neighbor’s cat hoping it might stick around at your place for a while well you might want to think again

A new ‘pet abduction’ bill could soon become law and would make it a criminal offence to ‘induce’ a cat to move in with you.

  1. People. Once again, "there oughta be a law." I've been feeding the same cat for at least five years. He shows up every couple of weeks in the summer. I give him a few treats and pet him for awhile and he goes away. I would never let him in my house because he obviously is someone's cat. And that would be crossing a line.
Many many years ago I lived in a very nice little trailer park. There was a monstrously huge ginger cat a little worse for the wear. Nobody actually claimed him. He would probably have clawed you to death if you tried to bring him inside. And everybody fed him, plus I'm sure he was eating a few mice on the side, hence why he was so big.

  2. So no more “enticing“ cats with the promise of a non-contributory pension, 28 days holiday and a company car, I guess.

  3. If they aren't giving their car love, attention and feeding them then they shouldn't have them!!

So many people have a pet for the novelty of it. They are precious living beings. I've taken cats from neighbours before because they were horrible people that abused their animals. Should I be thrown into an already overcrowded prison system? F*ck no!

Society needs to move away from throwing everyone in jail or prison for petty things.

Reminds me of that system of a down song… 🎶Trying to build a prison, trying to build a prison for you and me to live in!🎶

Also. Feeding a cat a couple treats is different from providing them a handful of kibble when they come screaming at you and actively bringing them into your house and locking the door.
This potential law seems silly and ill designed. There are reasons why animals wonder away from their homes and move in with other people.

If said person is taking the cat in question away from a good loving home then there is an issue, but if the cat in question is not happy then they will find somewhere else to be treated like the gods they are. No law will ever change that.
If it passes, many good people will be fined and jailed for having a caring heart.

In the end, it depends on the situation but a general broad law does nothing but spread the misery.

Where would the fined money go to? Local vets? Animal shelters? Sanctuaries? Would that actually be helping the animals in the end or lining the pockets of politicians and the corrupt coppers?
