  1. Well we haven’t done a good job so far to be fair

  2. Basically the ECB and the EU’s big banking and financial hub is in Frankfurt. Of those cities, Dublin is the most peripheral.
Everything else being speculated about the decision is irrelevant.

It’s nothing to do with any kind of assessment of the country’s abilities. It’s about its location and relevance to the banking networks. You would need a concentration of specialist auditing, experience in tackling serious financial crime etc etc

We don’t have many people involved in any of those things.

  3. To be fair, who actually thought Dublin was a good place to put it?

  4. A proper city or a shambles like Dublin? hmm, hard decision.

Get off your flight and hop on the train in the airport train station to connect quickly to the city centre? or queue for a taxi or cram on a jammed 16 or 41 Dublin Bus (after trudging back to Spar to buy a poxy leap card!) and enjoy the hour plus journey through traffic choked Dublin suburbs. Tough choice alright.

Hilarious we even tried for it!

  5. With all the BS the state broadcaster got up to – did Dublin actually think it had a shot ? 🤣

  6. The Irish bid was ambitious, the costs of office rental, renovations and the housing crisis all played apart. It’s a pity because Ireland is a global financial hub with plenty of massive financial institutions based here and plenty more to come in the coming years.

I would also imagine the support for Palestine played a part here too.

  7. In fairness, logistically speaking it makes no sense to have something like that on an island on the outskirts of the region.
