Hey,

I’m discussing with a friend how traffic rules are different in Norway vs our country. So please reply so that we can find out who is right:

You are driving on the right lane towards E6. You see this sign. Should you immediately move to the other lane/ left lane, or should you keep your right lane position until the exit to Nannestad appears?

  1. There will still be two lanes going straight forward, and then a third lane will appear to get towards the other road. So you don’t change lane at all

  2. Stay in the right lane unless you intend to pass cars in front of you.

  3. Keep right lane if little traffic, consider left lane if traffic is slow in the right lane and you want to stay on E6. This sign says there is an exit (highway exit nr 25) to Lillestrøm, not that the right lane goes to Lillestrøm. Furthermore, to clear any confusion: if you see this sign, you are on E6.

  4. You are always supposed to be in the right lane with a sign like that. However I see a lot of Norwegians not following this rule. Often there will be two lanes full of cars going under the speed limit to the left and a right lane like the one on the sign with no cars. This causes unnecessary slow traffic compared to if the cars used all the lanes. Btw make sure to know the “buss/taxi” lane rules, as they are not the same as I described.

  5. Just go to traffic school once again and after that take a drive lessons.

  6. You absolutely have to avoid going to Lillestrøm.

    This is rule number one.

  7. This sign means you are already on the E6. It continues on after the next turnoff which is Rv120 to Nannestad and Lillestrøm. You remain in the right lane. A new turnoff lane will appear on the right side but you don’t have to move into it.

  8. This is just an information sign. There is no requirement to do anything.

  9. No. Not with this sign. This just tells you that you can drive off the highway.
There is a different sign (it’s yellow I think) which tells you that the lanes is splitting up and staying on the right will move you off the highway. Then you would move right.
The law says you have to keep to the right lane as much as possible.
If you are exiting to Nannestad then you stay in the right lane until a third lane appears then you take that one and slow down your speed.

  10. Primarily you shouldn’t be driving a Tardis or whatever on public roads. [Intersection 25 on E6 doesn’t lead to Nannestad and Lillestrøm](https://www.google.no/maps/@59.7895763,10.8398221,3a,31.9y,26.83h,91.99t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sSMOG27LkZSSUb_ozL3MaCQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu).

But also, when intersections on highways like E6 occur, they have an extra offramp lane. [Here’s intersection 25](https://www.google.no/maps/@59.7919233,10.8407583,3a,75y,154.61h,79.12t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sTxXMudTHiXCkimeq3FKQKw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu).

If you’re close to [intersection 45](https://www.google.no/maps/@59.999411,11.0427876,3a,75y,230.45h,88.73t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sOa463_3VP1-m_2_dwIY5YA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu) to Nannestad and Lillestrøm, same thing applies. Just stay in your lane. Excessive lane changes, especially around intersections, are generally not appreciated.

  11. For this sign in Norway, you always get an offramp. if there isnt an offramp and the road splits from 2 lanes into two roads, then the sign looks different where it shows left lane going to X, and right lane going to Y.

So for this sign, you stay in your lane.

  12. Depends if the road splits or not, if it splits you obviously have to change in order to continue your trajectory, if a third lane is introduced then you don’t and continue on the lane you’re on.

  13. You are driving on a highway (blue instead of yellow sign) the highway is an E-road(number 6) and coming up is highway exit 25 in 500m to nannestad and lillestrøm. Stay in the right lane unless you want to drive in the left for whatever reason, this does not indicate the end of the highway

  14. Snur hvis mulig!!

Joking (I was actually serious), but if there’s two lanes and an additional one opens to the right, you do nothing, stay on right. In case of turning right, blink (to the right of course, otherwise it’s confusing), you turn right (makes sense so far?). If you wish to make a pass exactly at that point you blink to the left, press the electricity pedal (got it? Electricity hehe never-mind) make the pass blink back to the right, go back to right lane and decrease speed to normal.
If you read this far you can take this post with you to statensvegvesen and receive your local driving licence. (Not really..).
This is not a driving advice, typed for educational purposes only. Any use of the above mentioned is solely and completely the responsibility of the user.

  15. If the sign shows that you can continue forwards towards the E6, you can continue being in the right lane.

  16. E6 line keeps going straight which means there is no change in lanes, if you’re heading towards highway 120 however there will be a third off-ramp lane.

Always stay in right lane if possible. What might happen if the exit is crowded there will be traffic in right lane, so I would be mentally prepared to change to left lane when nearing the exit.

  17. Where are you from that this sign doesn’t make sense? And how does it work in your country?
