  1. John Mason is always good for laughs. How he’s not been deselected is beyond me. He must be popular with his local party members?

  2. >Mason, who represents Glasgow Shettleston, said it was possible not to be antisemitic while criticising the Israeli state.

    >But he added that “neither are the two completely distinct and unconnected” because most Jewish people in the UK had relations or friends in Israel.

    Mask. Off.

  3. Are you implying that it’s not acceptable to criticise Jews?

That seems to be the way things are going, with any criticism of Israeli policy or action meeting a rabid chorus of “antisemitism”.

Seems a pretty dodgy direction for a democracy to take.

  4. I mean it’s acceptable to criticise anyone but you typically don’t criticise them for their religious beliefs or belonging to particular order of faith or country. It’s their actions you criticise.

  5. Why all Jews? Not all Jews are Israeli. Similar to the fact that not all Muslims are Saudis and should be criticized by the actions to Saudis. Same goes for Cristians… in short, Criticism of Israeli shouldn’t be banned…

  6. I think you should be allowed to critisize anything especially religion but its not Jewish people who are at fault here its Israel. Doubt this guy would be running about saying all Muslims know each other and that it is okay to criticize Muslims after an ISIS bombing.

Edit: Maybe he would actually but you get what I mean.

  7. This guy is a fucken idiot. As much as I’m a fan of letting members choose who represents them, there needs to be some controls to remove absolute reprobates like this.

Between this and his protesting outside abortion clinics, the guy needs put down.

  8. I don’t agree with that framing. I’m careful to separate the Israeli government from the Jewish faith, they’re not the same thing.

  9. Read the article guys.. Always suspicious when you get quotes around a comment.

  10. Fuck off John Mason.

On top of hating gay folk, abortion we can now add Jews. Can the people of Shettleston feck this cunt into the Clyde already.

  11. It’s hard to separate the state of Israel with the Jewish religion, the two are massively intertwined given that the mass influx of Jews to Israel, which has happened due to persecution of a that group around the world and the efforts of Zionist extremists.

Its policies and parties are influenced heavily by religious ideals and groups.

It’s the only majority Jewish country and which founded was on the belief of a land for a Judaism on the basis of a historic (2000 year ago) claim on behalf of the Jewish people.

If there were two Jewish majority countries and your criticism was directed at one of them, it wouldn’t even be an issue to criticise Israel.

If there hadn’t been centuries of persecution of this group then it wouldn’t be an issue either. It can’t be denied that there are legitimate anti-semites out there.

The same argument against criticising a country on the basis that you could be being prejudice against a religion could be made about other religiously guided countries, like Iran for example. But I doubt many, in a secular country such as ours, would have much trouble voicing their disapproval for Iran’s international and domestic policies.
