  1. Asylum seekers living in Flemish asylum centres are significantly more vaccinated than those living in Walloon or Brussels centres, according to figures released on Tuesday by Secretary of State Sammy Mahdi.
As of 10 January, the vaccination rate for these populations was 75% in Flanders, compared to 61% in Wallonia, and 56% in the capital.

Since last September, Fedasil has redoubled its efforts to increase the vaccination rate of asylum seekers currently living in reception centres.

The average vaccination rate of asylum seekers has increased from 52% last September to 66% this month.

“These figures are always underestimated, as people may also have been vaccinated in another country, but due to the GDPR regulations, information on this is not always available,” the Secretary of State said in a statement.

  2. To be fair, vaccination rates are higher in Flanders than in Brussels or Wallonia. it makes sense for this to hold across the board.

  3. This is my workplace. Alot of our vaccination is due to intensive coaching, informing and facilitating by the staff (the social workers). Our residents get their news from sources outside Belgium, so the Belgian vaccination campaign didn’t affect them as much as us.

Its realy the social workers (they call us “the assistents”). Since we believe strongly in vaccination in Flanders, and people in Brussel & Wallonia obviously alot less, our residents get motivated more to get shots.
