I don’t see how this any different from sending money to Hamas or Hizbollah. One will get you a prison sentence, the other is just business as usual.

Trinners! Tut tut!
>The spokesperson also said Israeli stock represents a minor stake in the college’s overall holdings.
Should be easy to divest so.
The bank freezing the assets of the UNRWA is an attack on Palestinians everywhere.
More Palestinians who are generational refugees in Jordan depend on UNRWA for food, medicine and education than there are people in the republic of Ireland.
Obviously Israel thinks they should go without but it is disgraceful to be investing in those assisting in that attack on Palestinians.
It would be Trinity, wouldn’t it?
That article is so misleading and uninformed it’s almost comical.
The “UN blacklist” is not a blacklist. The UN agency that issued it has insisted on that point themselves: https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-israel-palestinians-un-companies-idUKKBN2061ZU/. It’s a database of foreign companies that have any activities in the West Bank, and it includes Airbnb, Booking.com, Motorola, and other random Western companies.
The article says that TCD built a solar plant in the West Bank. In the next sentence the same solar plant is now in the Golan Heights (ie nowhere near the West Bank), they literally can’t place the West Bank on a map and want to inform you about the situation..
The journalist who wrote that clearly has no clue how finance works. As if UCD had a team of Wall-Street-style financial traders with 6 screens buying and selling stock for UCD’s endowment fund 😂. It’s obviously managed by some asset management firm who isn’t going to call up UCD 45 times a day to tell them what stock they’re buying or selling – that’s just not how this all works

What pisses me off is that universities like this are so prepared to WOKE wash themselves. To even facilitate witch hunts led by students against other members of the university to don’t conform enough to whatever ethical fad its students fall into. However, when it comes to actually doing something really good, that might make a real difference, something that might entail some sacrifice, then it’s not on the agenda. It’s so much easier to to repeat ad nausaum the almost meaningless mantras of “inclusion” “equality” or “diversity”.
correction: Trinity owns ETFs.
If you make the same argument you can say every single Irish person is investing in Israeli firms when they put money into their pension every month
Wait until you find out what your pensions are invested in.
