Hello everyone,

Just yesterday night I had ordered Indian food online from my favorite local restaurant, and while eating it I had to spit out a piece of broken glass (ca. 1,5x1cm) which was in the curry.

The piece was broken on every side, and I was unsure if I had accidentally consumed any more, possibly smaller pieces of glass in my previous bites. I called up the restaurant and spoke with the chef who thanked me for my feedback, but refused to do anything more about it.

I had to go to the emergency ward, since my throat was feeling scratched, at 11pm and had to go through multiple operative procedures (including an endoscopy) to make sure there was no glass lodged in my stomach and esophagus lining. I was released from the hospital today morning.

This is a popular restaurant in my area, and I have ordered many times from here in the past years. Given the shape of the glass piece, I am convinced that this piece is not a “chip-off” from the edge of a glass, plate, etc. and that there is likely more dishes that the restaurant prepared last night with glass pieces. I would like to take action against them, primarily due to their dangerous negligence and would really appreciate on some advice on where to start.

I am okay now, but that was a very close call, and I would like to impact the likelihood of this happening to others in the future.

  1. Edit: TLDR: Food had glass in it, spent the night getting my stomach pumped out at the emergency room, any advice on what to do next?

  2. Maybe inform the Gesundheitsamt.

No point in suing, as nothing actually happened to you.
