British Airways ranked among worst airlines for passenger satisfaction

  1. I think one of their main problems is people go in with higher expectations based on that BA was a couple of decades ago and what they expect it to be. This results in being continually disappointed.

When you fly a proper budget you find they often aren’t as bad as you were expecting so have a good experience.

  2. To me, unless you’re in first class, a plane is a plane. They all look the same and have cramped seats with little leg room, and overpriced food and drinks. I hate flying and would much prefer being able to take the Eurostar to Europe or the QMII to America, but that isn’t always practical.

  3. But i thought BA were the only airline that really understands

  4. I flew them to Vegas a few years back and I was shocked at how shit the plane was. Ancient and filthy.

  5. I think they don’t sell themselves properly.

I was looking for a flight yesterday and easyJet was much cheaper, but that was for the small underseat bag only. If I added in the larger cabin bag which comes with all that up front stuff I never really care about, it’s £90 extra.

BAs cheapest fare was less than easyJet with that £90 included and within reason BA never cares about your bags fitting in the measuring box.

  6. BA is fine. I fly to the US with them every year as they are the cheapest.

When you’ve been crammed onto a Ryanair flight, you realise BA is totally fine.

  7. I don’t find it bad for “medium” flights of about 3-5 hours. It would appear that those planes are their newest models, anyway.

But short trips and extremely long haul are just terrible. Old planes, tired seats, weird noises. I get it’s privatised, but our national airliners really should be more welcoming to inbound tourists.

    What a bleak first impression.

  8. Once you fly with Qatar, every other airline just feels inadequate

  9. Ive flown with lots of international airlines. There all give or take the same. Clean planes, little leg room, you get food and land safely.

Long haul is where a slight difference can be seen in terms of the food you’re given (Qatar airline meal service is actually really nice) and the onboard entertainment

  10. I’ve flown with them a few times and their long haul service is very much on a par with TUIs long haul. Given the choice between the two I would pick the cheapest.

  11. Hmm. Given that I haven’t had a bad experience with BA, I wonder if just have low standards and I’m missing out. I can confirm Virgin were atrocious, but that’s it besides ultra long distance (which is never really comparable)

  12. It still amazes me that on long-haul flights BA attendants walk down the ailes with 2 kettles of boiling hot liquids in both hands and just recite from left to right…Tea? Coffee? …Tea? Coffee? …Tea? Coffee? …Tea? Coffee? …Tea? Coffee?

  13. I can believe that. They are crap, they advertise flights then cancell them and put you on different flights with no compensation. People book those flights for a reason.

  14. BA – at least for Europe flights – is charging premium full service fares for budget airline experiance imo.

Long haul, last flight I had with them was to Doha, it was okay, but nothing to write home about (Premium Economy).

  15. Just stop using them. They are owned by AIG, which is majority owned by Qatar. You know, that same country that protects Hamas leaders.

  16. Well, maybe if they didn’t just fly to and from London Airports, they might get their head out of their arses.

  17. I’ve had 10+ hour flights with ba and never had an issue once personally

  18. quite correct, they’re dog-shit

compared to their rivals: economy is terrible, business is terrible, first is terrible etc.

the short version is that they didn’t bother adapting or modernising (as they arrogantly assumed they didn’t have to and wouldn’t need to)

  19. These days I travel once or twice a year on the family summer holiday. Jet2 have been pretty good, except that return flight times are terrible. But food is great for the kids. I am happy to pay for meals because it breaks the flight up a bit for the kids and stops them driving other passengers mental. But our flight this year on BA seems to basically offer just sandwiches and cold food on a 4hr flight. This is pretty crappy compared to other airlines and I’d prefer some hot options. Also there are seemingly charges for everything these days.

But, BA takes me from my nearest airport (Heathrow) and at great times, so there are benefits.

  20. 30 years ago I met with a former BA executive. He’d been with them for 20 years.

I moaned about how poor the airline was and he asked me why.

“BA has for too long rested on its laurels”, I said.

    “You’re exactly right”, he replied.

That was 3 decades ago and BA has only gotten worse.

As for being a national carrier – no, it isn’t. BA uses its extremely powerful brand recognition to disguise the fact that in all aspects other than fare prices it’s just a LCC.

  21. BA has gone to shit in the last few decades

It used to be a more pleasant flight, better cabin, less delays, more free food, better seat/boarding options.

Now it’s lost all that and is no better than EasyJet.

  22. I’ve flown with BA a few times. Always had a great experience personally. Food is decent, flights take off and land on time. I don’t expect 1970’s level of customer service when commercial air travel was seen as glamorous.

  23. Over the last two years, a family member or I flew with BA, four time. Each time, luggage was lost and we had to go back to the airport the day next day to get it.

If we have to fly BA because of the route, we’re now factoring in “time to go back to airport” in our itinerary.

  24. You know which airline ranked the worst? 9/11 airlines. Reminds of that tragedy
