It appeared in the Upper Newtownards Road area.

Police are treating the appearance of a “sectarian sticker” in East Belfast as a hate incident.

The sticker was spotted on an electric box in the Upper Newtownards Road area at the junction with Castlehill Road. It shows two images with crosshairs over them, along with the phrase “All Taigs Are Targets.”

Local representatives have voiced their disgust after the appearance of the sticker, stating that there is no place in society for such sentiment. No other stickers have been located at this time.

Green Party Councillor Anthony Flynn told Belfast Live: “I want to condemn these vile sectarian stickers that have appeared in the area. East Belfast is a welcoming and diverse place with people from many different backgrounds adding to the richness and vibrancy of our area.

“Those who put up these sectarian stickers do not represent the area, and many residents will be horrified to learn of their presence. I urge anyone who sees them to report them to the PSNI as a hate crime, I will be following up with local police and the council to see to their removal and the perpetrators brought to task.”

Alliance Councillor Ross McMullan added: “Those behind this are not representative of people in East Belfast, who will rightly find its message repulsive and I’d utterly condemn those who put it up.

“I’ve reported this to the PSNI and I would urge anyone with any information to contact them too. Our community wants to live and work together and there is no place for this abhorrent sectarianism or any other hate crimes in the area.”

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Police are investigating and appealing for information following the report of a sectarian sticker being placed in the east Belfast area.

“Enquiries are currently underway after the sticker appeared on an electric box in the Upper Newtownards Road area at the junction with Castlehill Road. No other stickers have been located at this time.

“We are treating this report as a hate incident and would appeal to anyone with information or who noticed suspicious activity in the area to contact police on 101, quoting reference 907 23/02/24.

  1. The LCCDUPUVF gave somebody up then? Ah, Sunday rag soap opera melodrama at its finest, most mundane. These ex pats, eh.

  2. pop them boys round carrick and they’d freak out

  3. Is that a fenian ninja turtle on the left? Judging by the level of artistry on dispaly, at least we know it wasn’t an inside job.

  4. Despite protestations to the contrary, East Belfast isn’t a welcoming place for Catholics/Nationalists. These pop up regularly near my work, and they all say ‘all taigs are targets’. I would post the photos that I take of them, but I would probably dox myself fairly quickly, and I want to be able to continue going to work. Someone has gone to the trouble of ordering these off a company, which thinks nothing of printing them, and then putting them up in the area. Coupled with the reactions to the naiscoil and the east belfast gaa team, it just reaffirms that british people don’t want Irish people to exist in the land that their ancestors have inhabited for thousands of years. Our language, our culture, none of this belongs in their United Kingdom. Someone from a Unionist/Loyalist background, tell me I’m wrong. Convince me that Irish people have a place in your UK. Because as it stands, we’re not welcome there

  5. Well it’s nice to know elements within the protestant unionist and loyalist community still want us all dead though I would point out that we’re now the majority in the city so please forgive us for not losing any sleep over your wee stickers.

  6. graffiti and such like this is all over the place. is there a reason this one sticker has been singled out?
