Altenrhein has a nice little niche of passengers from Vorarlberg / Austria and the surrounding area. At least one hour shorter drive than going to Zurich airport.
Across the lake you have the airport in Friedrichshafen that has a good number of holiday flights.
Heck, even Sion airport (in Valais) sometimes gets flights…
It’s pretty good to learn how to fly and deal with ATC.
