[Sam Lee] Erling Haaland has release clauses which will kick in in future years, for figures closer to £100m (€117m, $126m) than £200m. The next and possibly only big question is if and when Madrid do decide to come knocking. It has long been known that he has always liked the idea of playing there.

  1. **Note: Sam Lee is the tier-1 reporter of Manchester City related news alongside Jack Gaughan. He’s the direct respondent about Man City news for TheAthletic.**

Consider him someone like JLS or Mario Cortegana for us while Jack Gaughan is someone like Arancha Rodriguez.

This is very big and important news because this is the first time that a tier-1 news reporter of Man City is confirming the release clauses rumors as well as Haaland’s desire to eventually join Real Madrid as his dream club.

David Ornstein did said about it, but it was back in 2022 and he’s a neutral reporter and not a City respondent, but still is probably the most reliable one. Here’s what he had to say:

    > [@David_Ornstein: “Real Madrid is a bit of a dream for Erling Haaland. I think the view was that, if he goes to Madrid now, he’d be there for life. Whereas coming to City, it could be a bit of a stepping stone.”](https://twitter.com/theMadridZone/status/1523716211233673218)

  2. The pull of this club lol. Imagine the tears of PL when we would have 4/4 best players in the world in the same team lol.

    Mbappe, Bellingham, Vinicius, Haaland.

  3. I still don’t think this will happen if we get Mbappe. Also Endrick is gone (loan first then sold if not good enough) if Halaand comes, unless he is the next coming of Pele and becomes undroppable which is unlikely in that short period of time. But then again, we won’t sign Halaand if Endrick turns out to be that good so soon.

  4. Haaland will never join us probably

    – Mbappe will be our new number 9

    – We have Endrick, a supposed generational talent who needs playing time

  5. mbappe is a better player and far more likely to join. i think haaland is a pipe dream until pep leaves. would not be surprised if they extended or renegotiated his contract and that buyout changes

  6. Why would we need him if we got Mbappe lmao? This man bangs in 4 against Luton or Sheffield and he’s getting bdo shouts.

  7. Due to his dad, he had a motive of playing for the city. I don’t think he will play anywhere else in his prime unless pep leaves and city downfall starts which is highly likely as pep has extended his contract.

  8. I can see it happen if Vinicius continues to decline. If Vinicius still continues with the same attitude problems and doesn’t come close to replicating that 21/22 season, I see us selling if Haaland is available.
