What? Absolutely insane ruling. I hope the university win their appeal.
>Dr Plautt said she had a “naturally loud voice” that came from her middle European Jewish background.
>The tribunal panel said her parents left Germany before World War Two and she felt “very strongly that her inherent characteristics include a stereotypical loudness and demonstrative and argumentative style of interpersonal discourse”.
>”Over the years some colleagues and some students have found this somewhat overbearing, despite Dr Plaut telling students and colleagues that she means nothing by it,” it said.
Her argument was basically _“I’m Jewish so you can’t fire me for being an arsehole”_
Edit: seems like theres more to the story (as there usually is). Hidden at the bottom of the article theres a few sentences saying that the court found that the university constantly treated her unfairly and threw out most of the claims of race and sex discrimination.
~~What the fuck?~~
~~Is this precedent? Can I get paid for being a loud jew?~~
The bits that will get the culture warriors riled up is what they led with. But clearly other evidence led the tribunal to their conclusion:
> The tribunal ruled she was unfairly dismissed and claims of victimisation and harassment in respect of her suspension in April 2019 succeeded.
It dismissed claims of race and sex discrimination apart from one harassment claim.
Fucking madness.
Imagine if someone else has said that the reason she was rude and abrasive was because she was Jewish. They’d be the one getting the sack for being antisemitic.
>she felt “very strongly that her inherent characteristics include a stereotypical loudness and demonstrative and argumentative style of interpersonal discourse”.
So is being loud and argumentative a Jewish ethnic trait that only Jews can have? Can other ethnicities hold it? Do we need to start testing how loud different ethnicities are so we can make allowances for the non-loud ethnicities to wear earplugs or something? Does this mean being loud is only protected by law if you’re Jewish? What an amazing case study. I love the future.
