  1. Excerpts:

*Nearly two years after Roman Abramovich had sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom, the £2.5bn generated from Chelsea’s sale remains frozen in a UK bank account despite a commitment to use the proceeds for humanitarian purposes.*

*Last month the European affairs committee of the House of Lords said it was “incomprehensible” that the money was untouched.*

*On Thursday 58 organisations, including the Ukrainian human rights coalition Ukraine 5am, signed a letter from the NGO Redress calling on Sunak to take action.*

    [Redress](https://redress.org/news/open-letter-to-rishi-sunak-fulfil-your-promise-to-ukrainian-victims-and-resolve-the-impasse-over-the-sale-of-chelsea-fc/):

*‘Two years later, the process remains at a stalemate, with neither the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office nor those tasked with creating the foundation taking decisive action to progress the matter.*

*‘The stalemate undermines remarks made by the Foreign Secretary David Cameron in January of this year in Davos on the confiscation of Russian assets, where he stated “[a]t the end of the day, Russia is going to have to pay reparations for its illegal invasion, so why not spend some of the money now, rather than wait till the war is over and have all the legal wrangling about reparations”.*

*‘The funds could have a profound impact on victims of the war in Ukraine, as they constitute nearly seven times the value of the £365 million in humanitarian assistance [pledged] by the UK to Ukraine so far.’*

  2. Ah yes, let’s continue to illegally steal money from people, it’s for a righteous cause!

  3. Is this an effing joke? What’s with this discussion of take that guy’s money and give it to me. No amount of humanitarian justification is ok with this sort of thing.

If we are normalising this shit, please sell off a part of england and pay back the colonies for all the damage the empire did.

  4. It’s probably sat their gaining interest for some MPs or Ministers wife’s solicitors or somet. It’s not been moved for a reason. Honestly our response to putins aggression has been shaky at best. It’s not like for decades we allowed our government and institutions to accept lots of questionably obtained grants and loans from Russian olig…..oh….no…wait.

  5. We need the money to fix our ailing infrastructure. Sorry to say, but humanitarianism can look elsewhere
