  1. >About 85% of the global light vehicle market has adopted these standards over time, in some cases decades ago. The United States, European Union, Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, China, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, New Zealand, Chile and India all have them. Australia and Russia are the two exceptions in the developed world.

Imagine being on a Russian-level of non-compliance lol

So car companies dump their most polluting vehicles on the local market, plus there are tax savings incentives to buy SUVs and light trucks if you qualify

    >The surge in popularity of larger vehicles in Australia has been driven by tax perks that incentivise buying SUVs, utes and other 4WDs instead of less-polluting smaller-sized cars and sedans, transport experts argue.

    >SUVs accounted for more than 50% of new vehicles sold in Australia last year, a share which has almost doubled over the past decade

  2. I follow some tech channels out of Australia and man, the ignorance is VAST! Rather then, you know, use solar and batteries, this one dude I follow goes on a dumb spiel for 10 minutes about how great generators are……to follow up stupid comments made a week ago about how EV’s suck. Australia would seem to be an excellent place for solar power, but, how do you overcome hard ingrained ignorance? Makes me sick and this is just one more reason that we are screwed as a species. On the positive, it was nice seeing a Pepsi truck that was using a Tesla Semi in Nor. Cal. the other day. Impressive looking, quiet, clean and way better than any diesel will ever be.
