  1. I read that one special reason the impact event was as calamitous as it is came because of the area where the meteorite struck. It attacked an area rich in fossil carbon, limestone (which converts to carbon dioxide when heat is applied), and sulfur. Liberating so much carbon and sulfur would have contributed to global climate disruption, amplifying the effects of direct impact.
