Hello all, I wanted to ask for some advice, hopefully a couple of expats will read this. I’m a US citizen that is a resident (of Gent) and work in Flanders. I’ve been working for a bit over a year now, and when I had to report my 2022 taxes, my company offered me free tax services (via E&Y) for my first year. So now that it’s my second year, I need to figure out myself, and apparently E&Y is quite expensive — over €700 according to a colleague (he found an accountant specialized in Grensarbeid BE-NL so different situation unfortunately).
Is there an accountant that anyone can recommend that is affordable? Or a way to shop for an accountant so that I’m not spending so much money (ideally < €500) on this?
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
PS: I looked at previous posts, which often directed OP to [itaa.be](https://itaa.be)… but the website looks like it’s for people who want to enter the accountant industry, and not really a tool for customers who need accounting help? Unless I’m misunderstanding the website somehow…

I’ve also overpaid many an accounting firm over the years to just collect information from me and input it for the IRS. The past two years I’ve used Expatfile.tax for considerably cheaper and have been happy with them, thanks to a Reddit recommendation. You can fill out the entire thing and only pay when it comes time to file, so you can test it out. DM me for a code if you want to try it! (Though I’m not sure if that code does anything for you; it may just give me a discount in future filing.)
I’ve used lime accountants for international tax stuff, it was recommended to me by a few expat colleagues of mine.
Normally you can go – on certain dates – visit your local tax sevicel and they do it for free for you.
I had the same situation as you, more or less.
Some insurance agencies can help with tax reporting. Even for free. If you have home or car insurance from a company, ask your agent if they can help you with this. Some even help for free when you are a customer. I had it done for free at the agency of the insurance company where I have home and car insurance. Even if it is not free, it may be affordable.
I work at a (smaller) accounting firm but big enough to provide the services you need. We also have a US office if you would require help on that front
No promises (that it will be cheaper) but i can ask how much it would cost to file your tax return if you like?

Link to the search engine to find a certified accountant on [itaa.be](http://itaa.be)
Itaa is the organisation of cerified accountants. So the main goal is indeed helping accountants to get certified.
Isn’t what you pay tax deductible so kind of “free”? Unless of course you loose money then it’s an expense to think about.
