It’s a very poor reflection on Scottish politics that Andy Wightman, a man of obvious expertise and intellectual weight, was forced out of it but hollow men and women like Mason, Greer, McConnell, Dornan, Yousaf, (Liam) Kerr, and (Rachael) Hamilton thrive.
I’ve been wondering for quite some time now what it is the SG actually do other than fob off responsibility to other organisations.
Other than a few headline grabbing policies.. Have they done anything constructive or productive?
ah yes, of course. The idea that local governments are responsible for all the problems, but have no permission to do anything other than implement central government policies under coercion.
SNP is very tory like, they want all the money kept centrally, but all the responsibility and blame devolved locally.
Going against the grain here but if ScotGov is allocating funding for a council tax it seems reasonable to withdraw that of the LA wishes to increase it.
I understand Argyle and Bute would lose money if they increase council tax due to the funding withdrawal.
That seems fair to me.
Not sure if the argument against is about centralised powe in general (which I would understand) or having about the right to have your cake and eat it.
