Who would have thought that Finland would go on to be one of our favorite countries to ride in? Among 30 countries on two continents – the peaceful gravel roads in Finland remain some of our favorites.
We rode more than 500 km in Finland and managed to stay on gravel or forest roads around 75% of the time.
And let’s not forget the giant forests, the unmatched amount of rolling hills and of course the endless conversations about sauna – with very friendly Finns.
We even had a visit here in Copenhagen from couple we met, after returning home 🥰.
We haven’t met that many bikers who have been riding in Finland, but we will highly recommend going there.
Those of you who have been there, what was your experience like?

We documented our entire one year bike journey – the story about Finland is episode 5. Link is in the comments for those who are interested🤗

  1. I’m planning to do some of the south-eastern Lake Region, and perhaps some of the north-south EuroVelo routes this coming summer 🙂

  2. Lovely, and great photos!

Several years ago, I went on a bicycle tour in eastern Finland and planned about 10% of the way to be gravel and the rest asphalt. Looking back, next time I’ll definitely add the proportion of gravel roads a lot, they’re simply fun to ride and often have a certain idyllic vibe to them.
