I’m going to Iceland due to work for over 5 months in summer and I’m worried about not sleeping because of sunlight. In Spain we have this kind of shutters (or roller blinds) but in all countries I’ve ever been at most they have curtains so I’m just curious about it. In many places I guess it makes sense but icelandic sunlight hours are not what you usually see so, do you have it?

If not, how do you deal with it? I guess for sleeping you end up getting used to it, but watching a movie or this kind of things can be pretty shitty with too much light. Thanks!

  1. I slept in a cabin in Iceland once that had these kind of shutters, the wind shook them so much that noone could get any sleep.

We mostly use blackout curtains on the interior side.

  2. Yeah, the wind is a real problem for these. Just buy a really good sleeping mask (like a Manta one) and earlplugs, and you will be fine (source: not an icelander; grew up with shutters)

  3. Shutters are rare, but blackout curtains are common. You can also use a sleep mask, but make sure to wash it often to prevent skin problems.
