It’s all good. When I have time, I’ll also listen to this!
Wiloo is the best french football youtubeur no doubt.
Tldr for English speakers:
You can’t replace Mbappé with a single player. Given their current price, chasing behind Leao and Osimhen would be a mistake. They also will hinder the progression of Barcola and Ramos (RKM to a lesser extent, he can play elsewhere and is a bit older). Furthermore Leao is good but lacks the finition that is missing without Mbappe, and Osimhen is not exactly the type of player who fits in Enrique’s system (I am not sure why, if someone can explain it to me) and a bit subject to injury (not sure if it’s in the video or a discussion I had somewhere else)
He reminds that even player such as Stone, Graelish or Nunez struggled at first. Instead the club should be patient like Madrid after the departure of CR7 (Wiloo reminds us that NAK had claimed that PSG will be patient but he has to backs his words by actions) and wait for more ideal player instead of trying a replacement with some panic buy like Barca did 1fter Neymar’s departure in 2015.
This summer the middle field is more crucial to reinforce.
Love Wiloo! If you can’t watch the video, he’s mostly talking about PSG’s attacking players.
His main recommendation would be to not replace Mbappé. Only a handful of players are close to his level (Vini, Bellingham, Haaland) but they’re probably not going anywhere. Not replacing him would free up minutes for high-potential players (Barcola, Ramos, Kang-In Lee, Simons) or proven players who need more play time and confidence (RKM, Asensio). It would be weird to give up on Ramos and RKM so early. 2024-2025 could be a great opportunity to focus on growth, as these players are probably talented enough to win us the league next year.
His other point is that Leao or Osimhen would be extremely expensive for a limited contribution (not very prolific this season) and would limit other players’ growth trajectories. Osimhen is also not particularly compatible with Enrique’s style.
Losing Mbappé means freeing up a lot of budget (72M/year), but that doesn’t mean we should spend it all this season. Might as well focus on other areas (midfield, defense) and get ready to jump on the next big attacking player who emerges in the next 2 years, if we think our current squad is not enough.
I really agree with this, and I think letting Mbappé go would bring a little more competitiveness and hunger, although I’m not sure PSG’s board would accept to be as patient. They might want to get a big name for marketing reasons. Hopefully they can get a world-class midfielder instead of Leao or Osimhen!
