Opened the back door to find two chickens strutting their stuff. No idea where they came from, I don’t live anywhere near farmers, chicken keeprs or allotments and I have a five foot stone wall around my yard and same height gate. It was perplexing to say the least.

I have concluded that the most likely scenarios are it started raining chickens, or they are a gift from some higher power. Anyway, I have chickens now apparently

  1. Where abouts are you? Someones going to be looking for them. Now ive got to go to the windy garden and make sure mine havent escaped

  2. Those (former backyard chicken keeper here) look like ex-layers, which are usually not good at flying. Some people keep those in their back garden and get another year or so of eggs out of them. Even in urban areas backyard chickens are quite a thing and you might be surprised which of your neighbours keeps them. They will be very vulnerable to night-time foxes if you don’t lock them away after dark.

  3. If you don’t find the owner head on over to r/backyardchickens when we can help you come to terms with being a chicken person.

  5. You never know when a chicken flash mob might break out in your backyard! Those little cluckers are full of surprises.
