Makes sense. Putin probably didn’t expect the West to propose the swap, and as soon as they did, he decided to preemptively kill his sworn enemy.
Could be part of the plan to murder him in prison. Much easier for Putin to kill him in prison than risk him undermining the regime after he is freed. By murdering him in prison, Putin can claim he died naturally and doesn’t have to release any info on the circumstances surrounding his death, and can claim “hey, I was going to free him. Why would I murder him?”
It sort of looks like Putin used the Tucker Carlson interview as a diversion to do this.
I am incredibly sceptical regarding him being released in a swap, given his profile and tenacity
To what avail? Navalny was free in Germany after the attempted assassination, he knew what would happen if he returned to Russia and he chose to do so.
Sure, Jan.
Was Navalny aware of this? Did he agree to this? He returned to Russia knowing that he will have a bad time. I call BS!
Probably the real reason he was killed. Too dangerous to Putin to let him walk free.
Navalny is the bravest man I’ve ever witnessed in my lifetime.
Edit to add: Putin is a little bitch
Absolute horsehit article. You’re telling me, they were going to trade 3 people, including Putin’s biggest political rival, for 1 FSB agent? Bullshit lol. These are the guys that got the Angel of Death for a women’s basketball player lol.
There’s no way in hell he was going to be released in a swap.
Makes zero sense. Putin could have just stopped the prisoner swap if that was the motivation.
I think navalny went back to russia after having made a deal to leave his family in peace: he knew russia could have killed him everywhere (Litvinenko and Skripal for example) and thought to be safer in a russian jail. Novichock poisoning damaged his body irreversively and life expectancy is not that high.
No he wasnt
This isn’t exactly what they’re saying.
What they’re saying is that Putin was testing the waters with Navalny, and when he got his answer that in principal such a trade was possible, he got rid of Alexey (since he has a lot of other much less risky prisoners). In that sense, it never was Putin’s intention to trade Alexei.
Nah, he was destined to rot in prison the moment he came back to Russia. Not a thing in this world was able to let him go.
Why the heck would they approve this swap to begin with???
That was never happening unless they knew he was going to die anyway.
Any recommendations on a book about him and what he was doing.
Navalny was killed literally to help Trump play “victim”
Suspicious
While i’m skeptical about maria’s claims of swapping just the FSB hitman to release navalny and gershkovich, it’s still sad to know that there was a possibility, albeit small, that he would’ve been freed. Putin’s a killer, and this makes him look weaker than ever.
No, he wasn’t. You don’t get shipped to Siberia (literally) if you’re being swapped anytime soon. Why would they risk harm on someone they thought had market value for a swap?
I don’t believe this
Absolutely BULLSHIT…
He’d probably go right back to them. He voluntarily went back to Russia knowing what would happen.
Sorry not for me. Never going to happen.
Good luck out there
Mad the celebration of Navalny – like obv hes anti Putin but he was also pretty politically dubious
