My wife and I have made the decision to stop flying for personal stuff (vacations, visit family) due to its cost on the environment.
But it feels like a fart in the wind. So, don’t fly? Do fly?
It’s the most carbon intensive form of travel, but I am not changing anything cause everyone freaking else is.

I’ve mostly stopped flying and replaced it with EV road trips.
I do have an aviation vacation planned this summer, largely due to family obligations. My wife has to fly for work sometimes as well. But I try to find alternatives when possible
While my choice to fly may not have a huge impact, I think my road trips have a minor impact. One of the biggest hindrances to EV adoption is charging infrastructure.
Want to know the fastest way to get more and better charging infrastructure? By patronizing the chargers and businesses that install them. Chargers that are utilized and generate retail foot traffic create more and better chargers. While my individual utilization may not count for much, I’m happy to be part of a pattern that is supporting the buildout.
It’s just part of my overall philosophy of patronizing businesses that are investing in a better future while trying to spend less on companies that aren’t.
Very very seldom. But I was also an Infrequent flyer, before I truly became climate aware.
I fly about once every 5 years or so for work now, on trips that are not drivable. All family vacations and any work trip I can manage has been replaced with EV driving. I still feel very guilty for those anyways.
It’s so hard to say! I personally am going to stop flying after 2 flights this year that I can’t really avoid due to family and prior commitments.
I decided I don’t intend to fly if it can be helped. I used to feel a bit anxious at the pressure of having an exciting bucket list travel background anyway- it’s cool in theory but the level of intense tourism makes it less appealing to me these days as well
That and that infrastructure is breaking down so I don’t trust the system as much anymore. As well as more intense weather means more intense turbulence etc.
The care free part of me has lots of places I’d like to see though.
I do not intend to fly again. Particularly for tourism, there are plenty of beautiful places within a few hours of my house.
I’m poor and have nowhere to go. But I feel that not having kids gives me a bit of wiggle room if need be.
For work.
And forcing family DOWN to 2 trips a year. Otherwise drive EV to vacations .
