Tuesdays papers, delay to the 100 quid off our electricity bills, not likely before March

  1. Announce something.

Get positive publicity by screaming about it loudly.

    Wait a bit.

    Quietly cancel it.

Hope enough people didn’t notice the cancellation so you keep the good PR without having to enact the change.

    And repeat.

I’ve had multiple conversations with my father recently where he will say “oh, they are planning…”, only to have to explain they talked the talk with no intentions to walk the walk…

  2. We’ll get our €100 the week after the new bank holiday to celebrate us no longer changing the clocks. It’ll come in handy for spending on the new Metrolink.

  3. I thought I heard at the time that it was going to be April that it would come out… Or am I confusing that with the UK one?

Edit: This [Article](https://www.rte.ie/news/2021/1214/1266580-electricity-credit-plan/) from December says “spring of 2022”. I don’t think there was ever a commitment for January. It may have been misrepresented in some papers.

Edit 2: in fact, the only article I see that says January is [The Examiners own article](https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40762977.html) from December. It looks like they’ve made a mistake and have not figured it out.

All quotes from politicians says “Spring 2022” or “Early 2022” and all suggest that it won’t be immediate as it requires legislation. Poor reporting by The Examiner, twice.

  4. They are not giving u €100 off ur energy bills…they are giving their friends in the energy company’s €250 mil for nothing…and they are doing it with ur tax money!!

  5. Seamus Power into the World’s Top 50 in the golf?! Nice one!

But yes, the €100 off your electricity bill being delayed is bullshit, especially when it’s to be a once off and it’s not transferable into subsequent bills if you didn’t have enough of a bill to fully utilise the €100. Or at least that was the case last I heard.

Anyone know what the story would be for someone that has their electricity account in credit? My parents have their account in credit because they pay in so much every time they get their pension, as a result they’re now in a credit situation.
