  1. Yep. I’ve done this. I’m not even sure if I absolutely had to but the fear of having nothing when asked leads you to it.

It’s a case of having food in the fridge but it’s all earmarked for the kids so you choose to go without to ensure that they don’t have to, and a bit of “If I skip lunch I can make this last until the next planned grocery shop”.

  2. The vast majority of these people are overweight or obese and are cutting on more expensive snacking and convenience food and eating out.

  3. Irish government for the next 10 years : Sure it can’t be fixed overnight

  4. Right no need to be grateful for anything these tits and buffoons are going on about.
Was bum fuck poor in the 2000s till I got out at 17 and have been doing great ever since but for fuck sake I never wanted to hear crap like cereal for breakfast or drink water to be full, no grip on reality when their all earing well, playing games while over half a million men, women and children who have worked their asses off have to be told this.

  5. Thankfully a very small proportion of children go hungry, amongst the lowest in the State’s history.

  6. I wonder what the percent would go up to if they also included parents who have kept the same portions but have resorted to buying cheaper/lower quality alternatives.

  7. This is an absolutely insane story. Genuinely had my mouth open in disbelief when reading it. We are one of the richest countries in the world, right?

  8. 37% are overweight and a further 23% are obese. Reducing food intake might turn out to be a good thing.

  9. Pretty meaningless number. The key is calorie numbers. How many people are taking in less calories than they need to provide for kids. If the BMI levels start flashing in underweight category then we have an issue

  10. There is something really wrong in our society. For all the wealth created here, to have this level of poverty is not right. By all metrics Ireland is top of the pile for wages, jobs, economic success etc.

Increases in energy costs, food prices, insurance and everything else across the board.

The country is broken under shoddy Governance. We have a 9bn budget surplus. Make life easier for people ffs.

It takes travel abroad to actually feel that success in your pocket.

  11. Do you think this could just be people thinking it means eating out less?
