No they won’t. It’s just a bunch of people with nothing better to do with their days. Where were they when the queen was alive and kicking. Literally never saw anything about people protesting the monarchy. Even when the prince Andrew stuff came out. People would make jokes but that was it. Then Charles gets in and then all of a sudden it’s a problem lol. The monarchy is rooted in the history of this country and will never go anywhere. The monarchy has barely any power to do anything I have no idea why people give a fuck, just go about your day and find something else to be wound up by that would genuinely benefit from involvement by people like these.
The current Republic organisation is completely incompetent, it’s almost funny how bad the stuff they produce is. The leadership, without naming names, is very…. mentally immature.
I’m a staunch monarchist but would be interesting to see what happens in the future if the leadership changes. Britain’s climate is changing and I suspect a strong republican organisation could make some moves.
That said it still seems to me anti-monarchism, luckily, is a mess that would drag the Left into an muddy uphill battle. I find it hard to believe the monarchy could genuinely be brought down to without a rise in socially conservative, traditionalists, patriots rallying Britain behind a kind of neo-Cavalierism.
Monarchy is too historically, culturally and emotionally rooted. I think the communists and woke Left types would find themselves wishing they didn’t start such a war.
To be honest, I really don’t see it happening any time soon.
Looking at the crowds that the monarchy pulls every time all they do is open a library or something, I really wouldn’t say that monarchy “looks vulnerable”.
Like it or not, they bring in the tourists, they help diplomatically, they help smooth difficult situations.
More importantly, they have zero or no power, so with or without them … will make absolutely no difference.
The monarchy do not benefit this country at all, all they do is take and take and at a time when countless people are suffering financially and we have a housing crisis, abolishing the monarchy and using the money on the people who actually need it would be the morally correct thing to do and would improve thousands, if not millions of life’s.
And before anyone says “oh but they bring is way more money than we spend on them via tourism blah blah” no they simply don’t. No one comes to this country to see the monarchy, they come to see the palaces and royal gardens etc. that they maintain and don’t actually own. Buckingham Palace for example could become one of the biggest paying tourist attractions in the world (much like the Palace of Versailles) and the money generated from that could really help the people of this country, let alone the alone Palaces which could be opened to the public.
Any time anyone talks about Republicanism in the UK I always think back to this quote by Lord Horatio Nelson.
“I hate rebels, I hate traitors, I hate tyranny come from where it will. I have seen much of the world, and I have learnt from experience to hate and detest republics. There is nothing but tyranny & oppression, I have never known a good act done by a Republican, it is contrary to his character under the mask of Liberty. He is a tyrant, a many headed monster that devours your happiness and property. Nothing is free from this monster’s grasp. A republic has no affection for its subjects. A King may be ill advised and act wrong, a Republic never acts right, for a knot of villains support each other, and together they do what no single person dare attempt.”
