One of the biggest problems in the US is our Pavlovian gag response to the word taxes.
You can say “cost”, “expense”, “fee”, or even “tip” and people won’t gag. But Reagan taught us all to gag at the word “tax”.
Just say the word taxes and random white guys come out of the woodwork to argue about nonsense and give Grover Norquist money. This conditioning is going to do us in.
Ironically, Nancy famously had no gag reflex and was known as the “throat GOAT”.
