The Vatican sanctioned lots of invasions over the course of history. Bringing Christianity to pagan people was a standard excuse for invasion, enslavement, and plunder. For example, the Spanish did that with the new World in the 1500s. It was also used as an excuse to conquer and “re-educate” native peoples in America, Canada, and Australia during the 1800s.
