Fingers crossed the investigation will get to the bottom of this.
No witnesses you say? Well, the Twitterati don’t need evidence in order to react to a conclusive case!
Not the foreigner? Well must be the traveler then….
Is this being picked up by any media outlets?
While it would be nice to live in world that didn’t need dash cams, reading things like this makes me think they could help for more than just fender benders.
Am I the only person that presses the “lock doors” button when driving in areas where you have to come to a stop?
> horse box

Something similar happened me in broad daylight a few years back. I went to the Garda station after and was told he was “harmless” – just the town character!
Do Gards accept crime reports via Twitter now?
These kind of tweets will dominate for about 3-4 weeks . Then it dies down and new craze starts again
Damn, this place really went to “She’s making it up for attention” awfully quick.
She was only going for a drive
Serious bang of attention seeker off this.
Depressing that just a few days after a woman was murdered, Reddit’s response to a woman saying something like this is that she must be lying.
She’s not making an accusation against someone or anything (where I could understand the need to avoid someone innocent being dragged unnecessarily). So the least we can do is take her claims seriously.
What grinds my gears about all this is the praise etc limped on the Gardai for investigating a murder. If anything the spotlight should be on the dozens of cases like this or assault or threats where the Gardai do flip all. And I don’t mean “unable to prosecute” cases….I mean where an emergency is called in and they do absolutely zero. Assuming they dont cancel the 999 in the first place.
I’ve called them with people actually *at my door* trying to break in with a car sent over about an hour after.
If it’s resources, fine, but we need to deal with policing just as much as anything else.
right folks ,time to organise vigil
Currently sitting in the car eating my lunch with the door locked. Every time I get into the car the first thing I do is lock the doors and this is the reason why
Good to know that the default many commenters are going to is that she is “lying” or “attention seeking”. For the love of god.. Try to wrap your head around the fact that accusing someone of lying about this is just going to protect the scumbags that pull this shit.
It’s also fascinating that these commenters are able to immediately deduce that this woman is lying from a single tweet.
> “Right lads, I read that tweet and that’s definitely just attention seeking. No need to investigate or take this seriously.”.
> “But how do you know she’s attention seeking?”
> “She posted about her story on Twitter. Also I read a story before where a woman lied about being raped so this woman is doing the same thing”
> “Case closed! There is no way this could have happened because she shared her story on twitter”
> The End.
Victims of abuse find it difficult enough to come forward. Victims who come forward on social media should be applauded, solidarity will help others if they’re struggling to reach out.
And yes, people do lie and make up false claims of assault/rape etc. If you opt to assume everyone who makes accusations is a liar then I’m sure there is a nice group of convicted rapists in prison that you’d get along with, as you’d only be protecting people like them.
Lock the doors, always. It does not matter where you are, I always do as well. Sad and worrying that people like that are going around and are a real threat to society and women’s safety.
Man, some of the comments here are fucking vile.
You’d think these lads don’t have mothers, sisters, wives or daughters.
My daughter was 12. Walking our dog by a busy road. We live on a road that leads to a main ferry point.
Three men in a car drove up beside her and we’re asking her to get in the car. She bolted and they drove ahead of her and went up on the path in front of her. Men were in a yellow reg car.
A week previously she had been walking the dog and said a boy in a car seemed really interested in the dog ,(he turned around and looked right back as they drove past).
We remarked to ourselves in private how innocent she was as the boy was probably looking at her. After this incident I was concerned they had been watching her.
Called the gardai. Told them what happened. Garda said the men were probably just asking her for directions (by driving up on the path and blocking her way after she ran away from them) and she overreacted.
Did fuck all about it. 🤷.
I’m not the hysterical mammy type. I don’t post about suspicious cars on Facebook neighbourhood watch groups. I felt absolutely fucking disregarded by gardai.
I think I’ve come to the conclusion, that my paranoia going down the street alone definitely isn’t overreacting.
Please go to your garda Station. This must be reported. The next lady maybe not be as fast thinking as you. 🙏
Always lock your doors while driving guys or use your automatic lock feature on the car, lots of scary cunts out there and I hope these lads are caught, genuinely can’t imagine how nearly every woman in ireland must be feeing reading this
Hmm.
* Made sure to say there’s no witnesses
* provides no proof
* Avoided @ing the actual Garda account
* Remembers the “excitement” on **all** the men’s faces while providing no description of them.
And this extremely crazy story pops up when we’re at peak paranoia in the aftermath of Ashling’s murder. I’d like to think that this awareness is based off a legit story but I have my concerns.
It’s always so astounding and sickening seeing people say “she must be lying” – as if it’s their default belief.
Wish I could express as a woman who has been assaulted more than once that reporting it, even admitting it happened, feels incredibly humiliating and shameful. It’s like rehashing the moment in your life where you felt most fearful and disgusted and disgusting. We don’t get anything out of it for fuck sake (I’m aware false accusations exist and they are extremely vile – but they’re also not commonplace and men who pretend they are so they can carry on blaming real victims are disgusting and dangerous)
