“Taiwan is China — and it’s up to you what, when and how you’re going to do it — full stop,” Aleksandar Vucic said in an interview to Beijing-based CGTN, without elaborating. “That’s your territory, this is your people and you’re a sovereign nation.”

  1. Is this the same guy who went nuts for being called “russian stooge”?

  2. Did anyone expect something else from him? I still don’t understand why the EU is in accession talks with Serbia.

  3. A Serbian leader being pro-war and pro-invasion? Crazy! /s

  4. Countries who recognize Taiwan as separate from China: Belize, Guatemala, Haiti, Holy See, Marshall Islands, Palau, Paraguay, St Lucia, St Kitts and Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Eswatini and Tuvalu. That’s all.

So, your government probably officially claims the same, that Taiwan is China. Don’t be hypocritical. China doesn’t have diplomatic and trade relations with counties who claim differently.

  5. Damn, could Serbians stop electing brainless people?

  6. *Thanks for sharing this Bloomberg article. Here’s some more from the report:*

Serbia’s president expressed firm support of China’s claim over Taiwan as he announced that Chinese leader Xi Jinping will visit the Balkan nation this year, cementing a bond even as Beijing’s broader relationship with Europe frays.

“Taiwan is China — and it’s up to you what, when and how you’re going to do it — full stop,” Aleksandar Vucic said in an interview to Beijing-based CGTN, without elaborating. “That’s your territory, this is your people and you’re a sovereign nation.”

The Serbian leader’s wading into rising tensions over the Taiwan Strait sends a signal of allegiance to Beijing, with which Serbia has cultivated ties even as the European Union takes a tougher stance amid widening divisions over trade and Ukraine.

  7. “Taiwan is China” could also mean Taiwan is the real China and Xi’s government is illegitimate.

I don’t oppose Chinese unification, but it has to be under a government that doesn’t oppress Chinese people.

  8. I guess all the bad guys are making themselves known now. Time for the good guys to do the same…. have we any good guys?

  9. Well, both Chinese and Taiwanese leadership agree with that. They have only little disagreement in details.

  10. I’m not sure how this is really news, considering how the One China policy works. Politicians stating this every once in a while is almost yawn-inducing.

And on a purely formal/technical level, the Taipei government would agree with that statement too, just with a catch 🙂

I’d put the next part of what Vucic said into the headline instead. “Up to you what you wanna do whenever” practically encouraging them to invade.

  11. Why is Serbia stuck in time? I must say, the Serbs I know are all open minded people. But Serbia polictics is just shit.

  12. I really don’t understand this hypocrisy, you literally have like only 13 countries that recognize Taiwan:

[Germany’s Scholz tells China: Any change in Taiwan’s status quo must be peaceful | Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/world/germanys-scholz-tells-china-any-change-taiwans-status-quo-must-be-peaceful-2022-11-04/)

“German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he reaffirmed during his trip to China that Germany pursues a one-China policy” Meaning Taiwan is China

[French President Emmanuel Macron Meets with Wang Yi (fmprc.gov.cn)](https://www.fmprc.gov.cn/mfa_eng/zxxx_662805/202402/t20240221_11248099.html)

“*France has always pursued the one-China policy*, and this position is clear.”

[The European Union and Taiwan | EEAS (europa.eu)](https://www.eeas.europa.eu/delegations/taiwan/european-union-and-taiwan_en?s=242)

“EU pursues its “One China” policy and recognises the government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government of China”

[Taiwan: History, politics and UK relations – House of Commons Library (parliament.uk)](https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-9254/)

“The UK, like most other countries, *does not recognise Taiwan as a state, nor* does it maintain formal diplomatic relations with the island.”

So every country in the West says the same, why is this a news?

This is another one of those “Serbia bad posts” that catches people who can’t use the basic Google search engine to find that their own officials have stated more or less the same thing. The amount of propaganda on r/Europe is horrible

  13. Isn’t this the position of most countries though? As far as I know – only like 20 countries have official diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

  14. Two fascists cozying up to each other in their little league of hate and autocracy.
