When we were little they were everywhere and we used to collect them and call them gonks. I’ve been trying to find some older ones from the 90s, but searching for gonk comes up with a lot of gnomes and none of these guys! Any idea of other names I could find some on eBay by? Americans call them Weeples but I’m not invested enough to pay that much shipping!

Damn this brought up some memories. I believe they’re called logobugs.
I got one from my uni’s pride society last year at the welcome fair lol
Yep!
It’s a cheap marketing gimmick, which I may have used,
Obviously to direct traffic to a a website.
There’s a pumping station museum in Burton on Trent that has them for sale in the little hut where you enter and pay. Totally forgot they existed til I saw them when I visited last year.
100% worth a visit by the way – just look at it!

I’ve got a little collection from when I was little. I can’t resist buying them when I see them though!
Yep! I still have 3 stuck on my desk. Not sure where I even got them from since I can’t remember, but they’ve kept me company for years.
Do people still market with them?
I always called them gonks too, but searching “pompom bugs” looks to bring a few up on eBay.
I doubt you’ll find many for sale though, most of them have probably disintegrated by now, or were stuck to brick monitors that have long since been scrapped.
I remember these, my Grandad had a few stuck to his PC! When I got one I’d give it to him and he’d add it on… only a few but it’s a happy memory
Don’t know if he kept them when he got a new one, and he’s sadly no longer around to ask
I could ask Grandma, I think she’s mostly left his computer room as he left it, but I know I’d forget and if I remembered she’d probably have no idea what I was on about
I miss those days 🙁
My guess is that these probably aren’t used much these days because they’re probably not exactly eco friendly (though I’m pretty sure at one point I’d seen one that was promoting recycling)
