  13. I can understand looking at this option for boats that refuse to stop, drug smugglers, terrorists etc, but the channel situation with asylum seekers is quite different.

    The vast majority wait to get picked up by Border force mid channel, very very rarely try to get away.

    If the shoe was on the other foot, and it was the White British who were illegally trying to enter their Countries in droves.
    How would they handle the situation?

  20. so… let me understand this… they’re expecting the RN to open fire on migrant boats either in International waters, which would be against the law, or in British waters, which would then oblige the RN to render medical assistance, thus necessitating landing said migrants at the nearest large port. Never mind that as the closest vessel in international waters, they’d be obliged to render assistance *anyway*.

    Right. This makes perfect sense.

  22. The language they use is ugly. You see politicians talking about ‘batteling’ migrants as if we’re in the midst of a war, which appeals to a certain demographic, but just how dehumanising. I hate it.
