Balgriffin residents feel ‘betrayal’ over plan for 730-unit Cairn apartment scheme

  1. Gotta love nimbism, especially from those who have gotten somewhere to buy/live and then don’t want others to do the same.

  2. “However, local resident Mr Linnane said the residents of Parkside, **many of whom only purchased their homes in the past 18 months** ,“feel a serious sense of shock and betrayal at this proposal which will be seriously injurious to their residential amenities and to the visual amenity of this new residential area”.”

    NIMBYism – not even once

How dare they develop this area further now that I’ve decided to live in the recently developed area

  3. The cheek of them. They all moved their within the last 18 months and are trying to pull the ladder up.

  4. I don’t know what anyone who bought houses in that area of Dublin was expecting to happen – it’s literally a whole new area earmarked for high density development. You’d know this buying there.

This is the definition of “fuck you, I got mine”, and frankly it’s sickening. My own neighbours tried to pull something similar in my estate a few years ago, safe to say I wasn’t shy in pointing out the immense hypocrisy of their behaviour.

  5. The resident is right about one thing.. there’s a lot of scope for more amenities around that clongriffin area.

Loads of land earmarked for it too, main street clongriffin is full of empty commercial units.

Do you know how you get businesses to come? More people. Bigger market.

Clongriffin got its second shop in the last few months. A Mace!! Now theres a centra and a mace, really moving up in the world. There’ll be more as they continue to develop, and develop they shall.

    Fuck the nimbys.

  6. I grew up not far from this area and I really think this suburban sprawl is one of the worst parts of Dublin to emerge since the turn of the century. Houses after houses after houses, no amenities, nothing to do for kids, even less to do for adults, and now more and more dwellings being added in too.

  7. >Echoing the views of others who objected, Mr Linnane said “the proposed development in terms of density and building heights represents an overdevelopment relative to existing and adjacent development”.

So maybe it’s the present development that is the problem?

  8. The one thing I don’t understand is that we’re going to end up with all these 10 storey buildings dotted around Dublin suburbs and then there’s high buildings rejected in the IFSC.

  9. To be fair, the area is almost at bursting point. There are no additional shops and no additional schools as far as I’m aware. Traffic is a nightmare. Even Father Collins Park is really busy. You can’t add another 1000 people without considering this.

  10. These idiots are stupid. They don’t understand, more houses, more population is good for Ireland. You barely get any competition for most services.

  11. Congratulations on buying a house, now raise up the drawbridge behind you in case anyone else expects to do the same thing.

  12. This area has been earmarked for high density housing for over 20 years. Main problem now is that in original National Development Plans there was to be serious road infrastructure put in place, this did not happen when the economy crashed. Now all the building is being approved but no proper increase to road infrastructure.. already huge congestion in the area

  13. Oh god. Housing crisis in full swing, bunch of whiny boomers with houses whining that more houses are being built.

  14. God, the idiocrasy of these asses. If you went up and asked anyone who complained about this development about their thoughts on the Irish housing crisis they would surely all agree that more apartments/houses needs to be built.
Assholes want everywhere else to be developed but their area? Such twats.

  15. Where exactly is this?

Article says east of Belmayne avenue but that’s already full of houses and the two primary schools.

  16. So – I live in this estate and am one of “the residents who moved in in the last 18 months”. I think I should make it clear that this is a “those that shout the loudest” situation…. There are over 500 houses in the estate and a door to door knock around and only 80 people objected.

The post in the Facebook group is full of people basically wondering what the fuck is wrong with our neighbors. I’m happy to have more development in the area, more places for people to live, and especially if it comes with more infrastructure. We expected this when we bought in a new development.

  17. I live in the area and am part of a neighborhood WhatsApp group for the most recent phase. It was one of the people in that group who spearheaded the whole objection campaign and tried to raise funds to hire a planning consultant, and unfortunately succeeded. It actually really pissed off a lot of the other residents who had no issues with the development. Especially when one of the nimbys stated that the social housing that was going to be part of the development would be a menace. Note how there was 88 objections but something like 500 houses in the area. Thing that really boiled my blood was they were acting like this was a surprise, when the plan to build apartments next to the estate was included in the planning permission for the houses they bought!

  18. They do need to sort out the roads around there though. Donaghmede roundabout is an absolute disaster now, and all around campions pub up to northern cross. I’m all for building more houses, but they can’t do it without proper roads

  19. I live in the area and these people are idiots. There is fuck all services in the area because half the place is empty wasteland. More people living in the area will bring more business, better services and improve the area!
