Am I being overcharged here? I used the charging points twice. Total of 2.494 kWh and 47 mins, app showing £1.50 each but being charged £13.50.

Ive never had an electric car before nor used the charging stations prior to this so I’m a big lost on it all. I have emailed them asking but will take two days potentially.

  1. I’ve had a look at the tariff on this station. There’s a minimum charge of £1.50 (although it seems to be functioning as a 3kW charger, which is pretty poor). You seem to have been charged for a session where you didn’t draw power (maybe it didn’t work first time?) and I’d imagine they’d refund it.

The card costs £12. Have they charged you for one of these sessions at £1.50 and the cost of the card?

  2. The chargeplace Scotland card is £12 if you’d not already paid that fee, which if for some reason you were only being charged for one of these sessions would be £13.50, that’s all I have!

Edit: thinking about it you’ve got one January session so it makes a lot of sense for this to be that session + the card

  3. Just phone them. They’re generally good. The same can’t be said for their app which is red hot shit.

  4. I’ve never understood the need for a card to work these chargers

When you charge, you have an object with a burnt-in *serial* number that identifies it, and you have to have with you. This number could be communicated to the charger along with the requested charging rate.

What is this mysterious object? Well, it’s the EV itself and the number is the VIN

Someone was being stupid when they developed this system. There is the story in IT of the software developed to manage a PBX (the internal phone exchanges of large buildings/companies) that all it could do was manage that manufacturer’s PBXs. You got it *free* with every PBX as you needed it. A VP saw this proprietary expensive software and demanded it was protected with a hardware dongle to stop it being copied! As people pointed out there was already a dongle – the PBX, without the PBX the software did nothing

  5. a member of my family…in their 30s, said they were thinking of getting an electric car as they then wouldn’t have to pay for fuel. For some reason they thought the electric charging was free.
