  1. In other news, we ask Mr Bear if he shits in the woods

  2. Is hate illegal? Maybe in a strict Arab country, where you cannot speak your mind. Does she want to go and live in Iran?

  3. Oh no, hatred! How pathetic we are becoming as a nation…

  4. ‘Hate speech’ = Anything I don’t like or disagree with

  5. I don’t know who Eni Aluko is, but Twitter is a cesspit. Is it illegal? Probably not.

  6. Correct, next.

Even prior to the fuckhead buying it out, all social media encourages, drives and propagates engagement, clicks and interactions.

Guess what generates interactions? It’s not warm feelings and good gestures, and given the fact Facebook ‘s algorithm was literally, legally, found to be the cause of a genocide, I think we all should be aware of the pitfalls by now.

The days where eating disorders were our biggest social media issue are long gone, and it’s getting much worse, not better.

  7. I was confused at first bit they made sure to include their full name, “X, formerly known as twitter”

  8. I don’t understand why people criticise the medium, because I don’t use it. Therefore, it does me zero harm.

  9. Is it hatred, or people (quite rightly) pointing out she’s terrible as a Football pundit?

If the latter (which I fully suspect), then it should be encouraged, people who put her in that position might start getting the message

  10. I hate to be that guy… but does this article actually give any examples of racist or mysoginistic hate speech? It keeps saying she received it, and alluding to people’s motives for saying mean spirited things to her.

I have to take issue with outrage bait articles like this, that keep us angry/afraid without citing any real examples.

In the euros the media went mad saying Twitter was full of racists. Out of 16 million active Twitter users in the U.K. only 1000 actually broke twitters terms of service (and that was pre Musk).

Citing one or two examples of bad actors and blaming a whole society seems to be too common today. And let’s not forget only last year the BFG having a ‘black coat’ and watching the Thick of It were signs you were a racist (according to Dahls publisher and Prevent).

  11. Really helpful getting someone called Eni Aluko to say that

  12. Social media is not a human right. While I wish people comported themselves with a bit more class online she could always press the off button or failing that use the app anonymously. I fear that free speech might be targeted to protect the egos of millionaires and celebrities.

  13. I don’t know who that is or why I should be interested in their opinion.

Their opinion is dead on, but still.

  14. I love x it’s like being back in free speech 2012 version of twitter

  15. And? What would you rather? A world in which you delegate control over what you can and can’t read to a corporate entity like Twitter? I can assure you that they do not have your best interests at heart. They’re going to show you what works for them, not for you, and for me that would be a far, *far* worse outcome in a misguided attempt to prevent people from being offended.

  16. Well, any social media outlet really. Read a review, posted on Goodreads, of Alexei Sayle’s autobiography yesterday. Started by calling him a ‘wanker’.

  17. Don’t use Twitter anymore. Most business Twitter users moved to places like linkedin.
But apparently musk says it’s doing better than ever. So who knows? Twitter was too powerful which is why a billionaire took it over and ruined it.

  18. Why do you think that the right cheered on that Muskrat getting his horrible hands on it?

  19. This bitch shouldn’t be “checking” what anyone says.

  20. Well, that’s a fact. It was quite a toxic place before the manchild bought it, but it’s 100 times worst now since he encourages hatred as long as he agrees with it.

  21. Surely the best thing to do is ignore it? She’s in a great position career wise (ignoring her actual punditry skills) and mosty likely better than the people who are spouting hatred at her.

The old internet addendum, don’t feed the trolls

  22. She’s just mad because people are saying she’s shit at her job and she’s taking the criticism as if it’s because she’s a woman.

It’s not, it’s cos she’s an idiot who makes way too many mistakes to be remotely watchable.
