Google street view jumps back in time when you’re looking around Tottenham Court Road. The much missed Astoria even pops up.

  1. I forgot all about that fountain.

Some bits look really shit, some bits look better.

  2. Much of my youth spent seeing lots of awesome gigs at the Astoria. Went there a few times for my working career too, not as fun then 🤣

  3. That would be Charing Cross Road really, but lots of memories of knocking around that little area between the Astoria, Foyles, Forbidden Planet, Virgin Games Centre, Denmark Street…

  4. Wow Nostalgic …. I completely forgot it looked like that.

  5. Ah the Astoria. Saw so many gigs there when I lived in London. Great times.

  6. I was thinking the other day about how cool it was to go down there to buy electronics in the 90s. Haggling with them about how much to buy a Walkman for, telling them it was cheaper down the road, then watching them go out the shop and down the road to get the stock from their mate at the shop it was cheaper at.

  7. There were some really good Korean Restaurants on that road…

The only 1 that survive the purge is Seoul Kitchen which is now round the corner from the YMCA behind the dominion theatre.

  8. Seeing the Nokia billboard…….brings back memories.

  9. For those interested this is 2008

This looks to be around October judging by the gigs. Astoria closed a mere 3 months later in Jan 2009.

  10. Fully dystopian now, what is going on with the screen stuff? I resent having my retinas burned on a daily basis by it…it’s impressive and very hard to avoid.

  11. Twice today I have seen an old pic of EAT and ugh how I miss it!

  12. Wow, this brings back memories. I had forgotten the Astoria was there.

The thing about the good times is that you don’t know they are the good times.
