There was a time not too long ago when I never imagined McConnel would get put down for being the voice of reason.
America is at serious risk of becoming a Philip K. Dick story.
It feels surreal to watch the United States falling deeper and deeper into the abyss of Putin’s grip.
I said I’d believe McConnell was an ally of Ukraine’s when I saw him actually do anything.
So now the one thing he’s actually doing is to quit, rather than go along with the party’s mounting treason.
That is something, I guess? But this is a guy who would block the functioning of the entire US government in order to throw his tantrums. Since when has he ever backed down from anything?
I think someone is forcing him out.

His party’s foreign policy is “out of touch” with reality.
McConnel is a rat fucker on social and domestic issues, and even so I am seriously worried about who the party will choose to replace him. He can manage the hell out of a caucus, though, and has been pretty consistent on foreign policy despite his fuckery domestically.
Add to this that the 1/3 of seats in the Senate which are up this fall favor giving Republicans an edge.
This is very not good news.
The question is, is this due to his health? Or is he being edge out by a far right faction? The implications of the latter are pretty dark both at home and internationally.
Note: currently Republicans hold 49 of 100 seats, but represent only about 38% of the US population in straight numbers. Less if you consider that many of them were voted against by non-zero percent of the population. I’ll look at numbers when I’m not on my phone, but they could hold a majority of seats after the election while representing something like 40%.
This is a phenomenon known as “the tyranny of the minority” and yes, it’s as frustrating as it sounds like. Of course the majority should not rule at the expense of a minority, but the inverse must also be true (but it often is not).
Maybe Ukraine should try winning again besides just taking shit and not getting anything done. “Oh here’s more shit to squander”
