“On Monday peers also backed a Labour proposal that would require police officers to tell the truth during public inquiries and criminal investigations by 252 votes to 179.”

Fuck me. The fact that those two have to be added as amendments, and no doubt will be scrapped again by Parliament shows how ill thought out and dangerous this bill is.
Thank goodness, its weird to keep getting saved by an organisation I ideologically consider anachronistic. But I guess life isn’t black and white.
No matter how much you loathe the way people get into the Lords, you have to respect them for blocking these ridiculous and dangerous laws and keeping at least some kind of reins on the government. Without them, so many undemocratic laws would have passed without proper scrutiny.
I have a feeling the commons are just going to scrap a lot of the lords’ amendments anyway, and we’re going to end up with a case of ping pong.
How fucked up is it that it’s currently legal for the police to routinely lie and yet the general public will get crucified for lying in the very same situation
> that would require **police officers to tell the truth** during public inquiries and criminal investigations
Police officers who don’t always tell the truth? When they are controlled by a government that doesn’t always tell the truth it’s no great surprise.
We just came very close to losing the right to protest in this country, this government are extremist authoritarians.

Imagine 179 people voting against this.
