How do I get out of this?
My (tech SME) employer just laid off loads of people this month, because they’re genuinely skint, they won’t pay for this, and the financial hit could be pretty severe.
I have a mortgage to pay, car insurance and a council tax bill coming soon, and a new kitchen to be saving for by the end of the summer.
I’m also slammed at work.
The “loss of earnings” cap doesn’t even cover my childcare bill per day.
So how do I get out of this?
COVID?
Tell them I’m a fundamentally sectarian person.
Tell them I’m racist.
Be honest and tell them I can’t afford it right now, but I’ll be happy to do it when I retire?
Do I just say nothing and start smearing shite on the walls?
Do I go in there wearing a GAA top, and insist on speaking as Gaeilge?
This sort of got me thinking though, the only people you’re going to see on a Jury in NI are:
1: Retired people.
2: People who are on the scratcher, or who are paid so low already that they don’t mind being there.
3: people who are being paid 100% by their employer during this time. (Again, this won’t be me).
Surely £64 per day is a bit shite, down south you get full pay, your employer has to cover it.

Before writing this did you read the sheet that details all the reasons for which you can request to be excused?
Just make your writing terrible.
I do think they should cover the full pay it could be weeks you are in.
