Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., blocked the bill brought by Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., who used IVF to have her daughters.
WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi blocked passage of legislation Wednesday that would protect access to in vitro fertilization.
The measure, sponsored by Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., and brought to the floor for consideration under unanimous consent — meaning one senator could block it from passage — would provide federal protections for IVF.
Science and Republicans are like oil and water.
If you’re a woman, gay or queer, black, Muslim, or any other number of “out” groups do you not see where this is heading if you don’t proactively vote for people who will protect you from the neo-Confederate fascists?
Make sure to actually watch and listen to the video, the transcript didn’t quite pick up her last objection to the bill but you can hear her say it. Her concern? “Human-animal chimeras”.
This is the bipartisan process. Wouldn’t it be just awful if we were a country where Democrats had gotten rid of the filibuster, expelled Republicans from Senate committees, and passed partisan bills like infrastructure funding, climate and environmental protections, abortion and IVF protections, cannabis reforms, judicial reforms, and other policies the vast majority of the country wants?
Why is this even an issue?! IVF has been nothing but a blessing to couples having difficulty conceiving.
She be doing something about school shootings, healthcare, homelessness, food insecurity, or wage inequality. But instead she’s doing this bullshit.
C’mon republicans, do something.
Imagine my surprise that this dried up twat is trying to take away womens reproductive rights
fucking dirty old bat
Here’s Republican Rep Anna Paulina Luna the only republican to cosponsor a bill in the house withdrawing her support for IVF legislation on grounds of needing amendments but not giving specifics
I am not sure I understand the unanimous consent approach. Why not move to a vote to get each Senator on the record on how they would vote?
>In her objection, Hyde-Smith said the Alabama decision “did not ban IVF, nor has any state banned IVF.”
Shockingly sounds a lot like what used to be said about abortion.
Hopefully, this will help to sway some Republicans and more Independents in the elections in November. The ones who don’t believe “that it can’t happen here” as the Republicans move us more and more towards becoming the Taliban in Americastan.
Why?
This will undoubtedly be a popular move.
aaandd there it is. they dont care about “life”. they dont care about children. they care about punishing and controlling women’s sexuality. time for this dinosaur party to join the whigs in the trash bin of history.
Republicans are a detriment to the security, prosperity and future of this nation. When you start attacking peoples basic rights, you’re an enemy of humanity itself. Please make sure you vote in every election. Even local. Make sure these people are removed from power for good until they learn how to act in good faith again.
Republicans like her often claim there are poison pills in the legislation when they vote against it without ever explaining which provisions they consider a poison pill. Just saying it enough for the Zombie Horde to repeat it and keep shuffling.
Correction: every single republican senator is blocking this bill. Just because the rules allow them to assign one person to be the face of it, doesn’t mean they’re not all complicit
Oh man, if the Dems were good at messaging this would be plastered all over the internet and streaming platforms.
“ they told you they would secure the border, They didn’t
They told you to protect IVF, they didn’t
Hey said they would protect your kids
They didn’t
Look under the hood, they’re lying to you”
She looks just how I’d expect a ghoul like her to look.
I have a cousin who had to use IVF to have their son. My wife who has PCOS almost had to use IVF to have our baby girl.
Democrats need to run on the protection of IVF rights.
Lol I was Paul Revering the shit out of things when Jan 6th happened because I knew they’d be emboldened since they weren’t punished appropriately.
Normalcy bias made these regular ass people think that things would go back to normal. I saw stuff like this coming years ago and hedged my bets.
Keep thinking the justice system or reason will prevail.
It isn’t going to happen because you’re dealing with a fanatic cult that wants to create a fascist government. They are enemies of the US.
Just keep spreading the word by telling everyone what Republicans in office actually do. Very soon, there won’t be enough of them in office to destroy Democracy, and We the People will chalk up a W for Liberty and ensure it’s blessings for our posterity just like we promised over 200 years ago.
Republicans are evil. Full stop.
Republicans are doing a great job making sure women have babies they don’t want, and preventing them from having babies they do want.
How do these suddenly become wedge issues when IVF has been around so long? Like did most republicans not care before? Do they even really care now?
Barren, bitter, spinster blocks healthcare for other women. Got it.
Really it’s the best case scenario for Democrats. Now go on every news outlet and say Republicans are trying to take away IVF. Blast it to everyone that’ll listen, you have the evidence. Blame the entire party, or just squander the opportunity like we know you will.
Okay, sweetie. My religion doesn’t like six year old kids being vaporized by war weapons. Therefore you WILL immediately give up ALL your guns and ammo. OBEY!.
I don’t usually comment on people’s appearance but could someone PLEASE let her hold her old ring just for a moment?
Hey ladies. Do you support birthcontrol? Are you against forced pregnancies? Ok no need to debate further. Vote Democrat. Whole ticket. We’ll get to nuanced politics AFTER we vote these monsters out.
A MAGA senator from Mississippi. The state that consistently ranks at or near the bottom in almost every measure of social and economic health.
