Here in canada certain universities have put in place “black only” swim times for their swimming pools because, and i quote, “they do not have a good relationship with water” (they being black people).

This is just two days in July and September over the three-month run.
The playwright is not intending to exclude white people or anyone else from attending. Just to make it easier for lower socioeconomic black/brown folks to see the play.

This might not be “racism” in the sense of it being an attempt to correct for white supremacy; neither is it promoting black supremacy, which could also fit the bill.
But it’s still a type of prejudicial treatment that strikes me as prone to backfire. One can heavily market the play within the black community, maybe even hand out discounted vouchers in churches or similar places where black persons congregate. There’s nothing wrong with heavy promotion for a given night in order to better serve a community.
But to set a full-on prohibition of white customers is still a type of race prejudice that, while its intentions might be understandable, is likely to run afoul of laws and customs. If anything, now that the event has been promoted as a black-only one, if the rule gets lifted it will have a sort of Streisand effect, with angrier white patrons deliberately buying up seats to prove a point.
There’s just no winning this way. There are better ways to serve the cause of justice than introducing a micro-form of segregation.

I remember my friend going to a black-only screening of blank panther, and my only thought was “that sounds cool”.
Strangely the same segregation policy as 1950’s Mississippi. Blacks and whites had their own theatres
Pretty sure the reason black people don’t tend to attend theatre isn’t because of the presence of white people. It’s the price of admission that stops them from going.
