“The Democratic leadership in Congress has suggested it would protect the Republican House speaker, Mike Johnson, if he bucks his far-right colleagues and brings a stalled $60bn Ukraine military aid package to a vote, as a new poll shows public support for Ukraine is now fractured down party-political lines.
Hakeem Jeffries, the House minority leader, floated the offer in an interview with the New York Times, saying “a reasonable number” of Democrats would vote to save the Republican speaker if the Ukraine vote resulted in a Republican mutiny.”
It would piss off republiKKKlans so much that they would drown in their own piss. Win-win.
The one missing link here is whether enough Dems would sign on to GOPer Fitzpatrick’s discharge proposal if necessary. Its catch has border provisions that idk all of its details, but I’d hope it would be any extra card dems could see as an opportunity?

Yea, unfortunately, they booted Kevin McCarthy and blamed Republicans… So that claim has no credibility.
Johnson should just introduce it because it is the right and smart thing to do. It is a worth losing the speaker position. The radical Republicans should not hold the party at large hostage.
They could have fucking done this with the last speaker, but apparently Democrats have trouble planning further ahead than a couple weeks.
